Nature of the MeetingThe Australian National Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (ANITA) is holding the Second ANITA Workshop on Thursday October 2nd and Friday October 3rd at Macquarie University. The purpose of the workshop is to raise awareness of the theoretical astrophysics research being undertaken within Australia. The workshop also provides an opportunity for observers to lobby for theoretical support for their research programmes, or to intrigue theorists with unexplained phenomena! It is anticipated that the programme will consist of 20+5 minute talks presenting theoretical results that bear on the interpretation of observations or that suggest observational tests of ideas. Presentations by astronomers who would like to generate theoretical interest in their observational work are also welcome. Registration for the ANITA workshop is free and open to all (i.e. not just ANITA members). An AAOmega Science Workshop will be held on Wednesday October 1st at Macquarie, immediately prior to the ANITA workshop, so why not attend both?
Workshop DetailsThe workshop will be held on Thursday & Friday October 2 & 3 at Macquarie University, in Rooms 102 (Thu) and 131/133 (Fri) of Building E6A. The AAOmega Science Workshop will be held on Wednesday October 1 in E6A 102. See this campus map for the location of building E6A (half way down on the right hand side) and parking (the E4 or F3 carparks are best). Parking on campus operates on a pay-and-display basis and is heavily patrolled. After parking, purchase a ticket from a machine ($8 for a full day - you will need coins) and display on the dashboard to avoid being ticketed. The location of ticket machines are indicated by orange dots on this not-as-good map. The location of the campus within Sydney is shown on this not very good regional map. Tea and coffee will be provided. There may well be a meeting dinner at a local restaurant on the 2nd (but we're not paying!).
