BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE ART PRIZE

2005 has been designated as the World Year of Physics to celebrate 100 years since Albert Einstein wrote three papers that changed the way we see the universe. Einstein proved that atoms exist, showed that light could behave as particles and proposed the theory of relativity.

To celebrate the World Year of Physics, and showcase the central role physics plays in science and technology, the Macquarie University Department of Physics is holding an acquisitive Art Prize with a first prize to the value of $15,000.

Entrants to the Art Prize are asked to respond in their chosen medium to one or more of the five key areas of the Macquarie University Physics Department.

Please see the Entry Form for conditions and full details on how to enter. The deadline for entries is FRIDAY 4 NOVEMBER 2005.
