Scholarships & Prizes Available for Students in Physics

A range of prizes and scholarships are available to students of Physics, Optoelectronics and Astronomy.

Scholarships to support students financially while they study

    A wide range of Scholarships is available for support of students undergoing postgraduate research studies in the Faculty including Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA); Macquarie University and Faculty of Science Postgraduate Research Awards for Australian citizens and residents (including supplementary awards for APA holders); International Macquarie University Postgraduate Scholarships (IMURS - which include both fees and living allowance for international students).

The deadline for most scholarship applications is in October each year and students must enrol and commence their degree studies by March of the following year.

Undergraduate Prizes

The Arthur Pryor Prize
Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor.
Awarded for proficiency in the unit PHYS242 The Tradition of Science.

The Australian Institute of Physics (NSW Branch) Prize
Open to all students proceeding to the honours degree of Bachelor.
Awarded for the best performance in the Physics honours program.

The Dick Makinson Physics Prize
Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor.
Awarded for proficiency in 200-level units in Physics having a total of not less than 9 credit points.

The Foundation for Astronomy Prize
Awarded for proficiency in the unit PHYS270 Astronomy.

The J.C. Ward, FRS, Physics Prize
Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor.
Awarded for excellence in 300-level Physics units.

The Peter Mason Prize
Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor.
Awarded for proficiency in the unit PHYS244 Science, Technology and Society.

The W. H. (Beattie) Steel Prize
Open to all students proceeding to the degree of Bachelor.
Awarded for excellence in the unit PHYS306 Optical Physics.

Summer Vacation Scholarships
A number of vacation scholarships are available for students in their second and third year.

Postgraduate Prize

The GEC Marconi Prize
Open to full-time students proceeding to the degree or Honours degree of Master of Science or the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of polymer and materials science in the Faculty of Science.
Awarded for proficiency in previous studies in this University or another university in Physics, Chemistry or Engineering.
