Honours Degree Programs in Physics, Astronomy, Lasers and Photonics

Honours programs in Physics and Optoelectronics are open to students who have qualified for a B.Sc. or B.A. majoring in Physics, or a B.Tech. (Opto) respectively, at Macquarie University or elsewhere to an equivalent standard. The normal admission requirement is a GPA of at least 2.5 overall and 2.5 in 300-level units. The program may be taken full time over 1 year, or, with special permission, part-time over 2 years, and may commence mid-year.
The Honours programs in Physics and Optoelectronics provide an introduction to research for prospective higher degree students. Honours is also an appropriate preparation for a career in industry, offering more advanced level coursework, and the chance to develop individual skills working independently on the research project and thesis.
Contents of the Honours Program
The honours degree program is divided equally between attending advanced lecture units and undertaking a supervised research project leading to a thesis. The student works as a full member of the supervisor's research group participating in meetings, seminars and other research activities.

The closing date for Honours applications is 30 October 2009, and the application form and general application information is available here. Optoelectronics Honours students enrol in the 24 credit point unit titled OPTO400 (D3), and Physics and Astronomy Honours students enrol in the 24 credit point unit PHYS495 (D3).
