Welcome

The Optical Biomedical Imaging and Sensing (OBIS) is a start up research group in the Department of Physics, The Division of Information and Communication Sciences (ICS) at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. The group is also integrated into Lasers and Photonics "Concentration of Research Excellence", Macquarie University.

Our group research activity is situated exclusively in the area of Biophotonics with particular focus on optical biomedical imaging. We aim to advance optical imaging techniques on two fronts: firstly, towards imaging live cells and tissues, rather than fixed cells and biopsy samples; secondly, towards observation of the smallest cellular structures, down to the level of imaging and tracking of individual molecules. Figuratively speaking, we are aspired to exploring luminous machinery of the cell.

Our current research projects include:

  1. Development of novel optical labels based on luminescent nanodiamonds for intracelluar imaging;
  2. Application of multiphoton microscopy to study of drug/nanoparticles transport through skin.
